To take a sauna – or bastu, as we call it in Sweden – is very healthy. When you take a sauna your joints and muscles soften and you experience a sense of well-being in your whole body. Sauna baths can be good for the heart according to a Finnish study, and can offer relieve when suffering from rheumatism. Even elite athletes benefit from sauna baths to remove lactic acid and other residues. Heavy heating and quick cooling expose the body to a great stress, but this is part of the nature of the bath and the pleasure of a sauna.
